4/21/21 - Volunteers Needed

We are looking for volunteers for when we host events, such as games. etc. to assist with concession; equipment, such as tents, chairs; check-in, etc.  There are no specific time requirements but we will normally need volunteers from 3 to 4 hours per week, usually on Saturday mornings, and volunteering would serve to fill a valuable need that we have while allowing for community participation and engagement in positive activities that focus on youth.  If you are interested, please complete our volunteer form.  You will also be required to complete a background check.

In addition to event staff, we are also looking for volunteer coaches who are willing to work with and teach our youth skills that will help them grow as athletes and as people.  We practice 1 hour 1 day per week, and game day includes about 2 hours of time per team coached from start to finish.  Coaches can coach as much or as little as they would like.  To be a volunteer coach, the following steps must occur:

1.  You must complete the volunteer application.  However, please be aware that completing an application does not guarantee that you will be approved as a volunteer coach as there are several additional steps that must be taken.

2.  You must provide authorization for us to complete a background check.  The form can either be signed in person or downloaded from our website, signed, and uploaded through our secure site.  Again, please be aware that completing a background check does not guarantee that you will be approved as a volunteer coach.  As an organization that provides services to youth, please be aware that you can either be green-lighted, meaning that your background is such that you can volunteer with children or you can be red-lighted meaning that your background is such that you cannot volunteer with children.  If you have any questions regarding this area, please contact us to discuss.

3.  If you are green-lighted as a volunteer coach, you will be given access to the coaches page, and must complete all training requirements within the specified time.  Training includes abuse and neglect and concussion training.  In addition, you must complete CPR and first aid or provide proof of current CPR and First Aid.  Also, NFL Flag Football hosts a training that coaches are expected to attend as this training goes into specific details about the rules of the game and the expected behaviors of NFL Flag coaches and referees.  The NFL Flag coaches training lasts about 2 hours.

4.  If you are approved as a volunteer coach, once the training is complete, and all documentation submitted stating such, you will be able to serve as a volunteer coach, meaning you can attend practice and/or games in that role.  If you have not been approved as a volunteer coach, you should not be on the practice or game fields.

We want to remind everyone that although we appreciate and respect your desire to volunteer, either in another area or as a coach, there are steps are necessary for us to be in compliance with guidelines that we must adhere to.  Both our insurance company and NFL Flag expect us to adhere to certain industry-specific standards, and adhere we must.  If you have any questions about our process, please contact us.

Season Update

Good afternoon, parents

To accommodate for Easter weekend and the Easter Holidays, we are moving the start of the season up by 2 weeks. So instead of the first game on April 3, it will be held on April 17. We understand that the past year has been stressful for families and some families may want to travel for a change of scenery during Easter break.  The last regular season game will be held on May 22 rather than May 15, and the championship game will be held on June 5.  We hope that this does not cause any inconvenience for anyone as we know that some kids participate in multiple sports. Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have any questions, concerns or feedback.   As always, blessings to you and yours,

Cheryl and Jimmy Washington  JCW Foundation   (318) 308-1394
